About this installation
This project was for an elderly couple requiring independent access to the upstairs of their property, but with an open entry to the bottom of the staircase. If a fixed rail had been fitted, it would have left the bottom section protruding into a main walkway.
After our initial consultation it was decided that an automatic powered hinge would be installed, lifting the bottom section of the rail clear of the walkway when the lift was not in use.
The clients also opted for a motorised automatic seat swivel, making it much easier to get off the lift when it reaches the top of the staircase. This system rotates the chair safely through 90°, leaving it facing away from the stairs and providing a natural fall barrier.
