About this installation

The customer's family contacted us urgently — their mother was in hospital and they wanted the stairlift installed as quickly as possible so she could come home. We arranged an initial survey using Handicare's 3D Photo Survey software, which involves placing photographic markers and measuring aids along the entire staircase. The accurate photographs and measurements are then converted into a detailed 3D rendering of the staircase geometry.

The initial rendering identified a potential knee clash at the first intermediate landing. To resolve this, the project was redesigned as an internal 180° wrap-around configuration. The installation also required some additional carpentry works — the first newel post was carefully cut back and repositioned by 80mm to provide sufficient knee clearance throughout the full travel of the lift. A second visit was carried out after the installation to touch up the mahogany paintwork around the newel post once the adhesives had fully dried.

Despite the additional complexity, the full installation was completed in a single day. The finished project turned out excellent — the lift runs smoothly through the wrap-around section and the staircase looks as good as it did before. The customer was able to come home from hospital and use the lift independently straight away.
