About this installation
Our customer in Poolstock, Wigan, contacted us to arrange the first annual service on their Handicare 1100 stairlift, which is fitted with the optional Power Swivel seat. The Power Swivel automatically rotates the seat at the top of the stairs, making it much easier and safer to get on and off the lift — particularly important for customers with limited hip or knee mobility.
Our engineer began by removing the body panels to access the internal drive unit. The main drive motors, gearboxes, and all associated wiring were inspected for wear and condition. The serrated drive rollers — which grip the sides of the rail — were examined closely for wear patterns, and the charging contact strip was inspected and cleaned to ensure reliable battery charging along the complete rail.
The rail and rollers must not be lubricated or any cleaning product residue left behind, as the 1100 system relies on friction between the serrated rollers and rail. Lubricants can cause this to fail. It is always best to have a qualified engineer work on your stairlift.
With the internal inspection complete, the body panels were refitted and the engineer carried out a full run test from bottom to top and back, checking the Power Swivel operation, all safety sensor edges, and the battery draw rate under load. The lift was left in full working order and the customer was given a service report confirming all checks completed.
